Glycoscience

In order to survive under stressful conditions, cancer cells alter their metabolism in a way that supports and facilitates fast proliferation and invasion. Here, carbohydrate metabolism plays a particularly important role. Alongside with development of strong glucose dependence, cancer cells show altered protein glycosylation leading to immune suppression and immune evasion, and promoting metastasis. Our group is working on unravelling the glysolyation alterations, investigating changes in carbohydrate composition and developing novel therapeutic strategies targeting these alterations to eliminate cancer cells.
