The Future Vision of Cancer Prevention

Mathematics in Oncology

Celebrating 30 years of flagship model in translational science

On September 20th, our department hosted a heartfelt farewell symposium in honor of our retiring director, Prof. Magnus von Knebel Doeberitz. The event, themed „The Future Vision of Cancer Prevention„, brought together leading experts to discuss the advancements, challenges, and future directions in the field of cancer prevention. The symposium opened by Prof. Michael Boutros and Prof. Peter Schirmacher featured insightful keynote talks from renowned speakers, such as Prof. Sir John Burn (Newcastle, UK), Prof. Nicolas Wentzensen (Washington, USA), Dr. Miriam Reuschenbach (Munich, Germany), Prof. Matthias Kloor (Heidelberg, Germany), Prof. Vincent Heuveline (Heidelberg, Germany) and Prof. Renske Steenbergen (Amsterdam, The Netherlands).

The event culminated in an engaging podium discussion, moderated by Dr. Aysel Ahadova, where the panel explored the long journey to cancer prevention, reflecting on the progress made and the obstacles that remain.

Professor Sei is a renowned expert in the field of cancer research and preventive medicine. Her current research interest centers on better understanding of the host-tumor and host-pathogen interactions in the tumorigenic process and development of molecular-targeted or immune-mediated cancer preventive agents. Prof. Sei manages the PREVENT Cancer Program operation and oversees immuno- and chemo-prevention projects in the Program pipeline as a project officer/COR. In her lecture Prof. Sei will introduce NCI PREVENT (Preclinical Drug Development) and CAP-IT (Cancer Prevention-Interception Targeted Agent Discovery) Programs as an engine for innovative research on molecular cancer prevention.

Don’t miss the opportunity to dive into NCI cancer prevention programs and join us for Prof. Sei’s upcoming talk!

Time: Tuesday, September 26th, 11:00-12:00 with get-together in the Foyer
Venue: Lecture hall of the Communication Center at DKFZ (in-person only)

Save the date: Lynch syndrome Patient Information Day on March, 12th

Mathematics in Oncology

Lynch syndrome Patient Information Day

Lynch patients are confronted with questions from different subject areas: What prevention and early detection do I need? How do I deal with the knowledge of lifelong cancer risks? What new findings are there in terms of diagnostics and therapy? Where can I find the right information and advice? Patient advocacy and support group Semi-Colon will discuss these and other questions together with Lynch syndrome families and exchange experiences in dealing with the hereditary cancer risk.

To this event several experts have been invited who will provide an overview of the main topic, inform about new findings and developments in Lynch syndrome / HNPCC and, of course, will also be available to answer the questions.
